Why We Shade-Dry Every Root
Sun-drying is faster, cheaper and takes the colour with it. Shade takes eleven days and keeps what the root was grown for.

The Face Pack

A face pack is not one recipe. The powder is fixed — shade-dried Curcuma aromatica, stone-ground — but what you mix it with is the part that answers to the morning you are having.
Skin does not read as "oily" or "dry" so much as tight, warm, dull or reactive. Press two fingers to your cheek and let go. If the skin springs back and feels cool, you want water or rosewater and nothing heavier. If it feels tight and stays tight, milk or curd will carry the turmeric without taking more moisture out.
Rosewater for a warm, congested morning: the thinnest mix, the shortest sit, the one to use most often.
Raw milk for dullness: the fats slow the drying so the pack stays workable and lifts less as it sets.
Curd and a little honey for skin that feels stripped: use it in place of a mask, not on top of one.
A pack that has gone chalky is a pack that has started drawing water out of the skin rather than putting anything into it. Take it off while it is still tacky at the edges — twelve minutes is usually the whole of it.

Heritage
Before it was skincare it was a ceremony, and before that it was simply what a household did on a Sunday.
From Reading To Ritual
Everything here is about one root and what it does. The jar is the same root, shade-dried and stone-ground.
